Great Tasting Produce for Fall

The time is now!  You do not have to wait until the New Year to change your eating habits.  Between Thanksgiving’s treats we look forward to all year such as: dressing, turkey and Christmas eggnog and parties; we are certain to gain weight over the holidays.  But we do not have to succumb to the temptation.  Your New Year’s resolution comes early.

Some produce that can quench your sweet tooth, leave you satisfied and guilt free are Apples, Figs, Blue Berries, Black Berries.  This produce will quench your sweet tooth without the extra calories.

The average person may have up to 10 pounds or more of old un-eliminated waste sitting dormant in their large intestine.  Others can have as much as 10 to 30 extra pounds. At this time you can add apples to your shake would work wonders for you; it includes yogurt which protects against colon cancer.

Health Benefits of Apple Crisp: What is that old age adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” that may not be completely true, but by introducing apples into your diet you can eliminate toxins from the body.  Some other benefits include lowering blood cholesterol, laxative, digestive and antiseptic. Apples have high concentrations of fiber and small amounts of protein but blackberries have 2g of protein.  It also has antioxidants and helps you maintain your waistline. We all know that bananas are high in potassium; but did you know they assist in preventing heart problems. Granola is not just great by its self or with yogurt, but great with a shake. Granola has high concentrations of fiber and protein. It also has antioxidants and helps you maintain your waistline. These are just a few ingredients that are found within the Apple Crisp shake.

In a nutshell these fall shakes have something for everyone, from the shake virgin - to the health enthusiast.  Remember to not go calorie counting crazy, it is the holidays after all.  Enjoy the shakes, I certainly will!

Apple Crisp

  •  1 red apple
  • 1/2 cup granola (optional)

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

  • *Substitute figs - 2 figs instead of a banana

  • *Substitute blue or blackberries - 1/2 cup instead of granola

Directions

  1. Using a blender process vanilla yogurt, banana, almond milk, apple and granola.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Pour and enjoy!
